Byron Bay Writer’s Festival
This popular stop on the Australian literary calendar has been running for over 10 years and is a welcome winter event. Using a combination of indoor and marquee locations, the writers festival includes music and theatre productions as well as authors from both Australia and overseas. The focus is not only on fiction, but also on biography, comedy and media and offers a broad program of workshops and discussions.
There is an informal and friendly atmosphere as you sit and drink your locally-produced coffee in the winter sun, and you can meet the writers as they walk around and attend the events themselves.
This much-loved festival is run by the local Writers Centre, located in the Byron Bay Community Centre and which runs a year-round calendar of talks, workshops and activities. Festival programs and maps of the site will be made available closer to the dates.
The Byron Bay Writers Festival program and early bird tickets are released on the 21st May 2009, so make sure that you keep up to date with information. Like Bluesfest , these early-release tickets are a good chance to get reduced-cost access to the festival. There are many accommodation options that are both close to the festival site and to the main town.
