Wategos Beach Surfing
Around the corner from The Pass is Watego’s Beach, nestled in under the Byron Bay Lighthouse. Like the Pass, this beach is a busy and popular spot, especially for longboard surfers and most weekends the local Malibu Club holds their competitions here. The generally mellow vibe and the views back across the bay make it a special spot, but don’t bother coming if you’re looking for a fast or challenging wave. Depending on the sand, Watego’s can work well and break right around from the Cape, but it’s generally a fuller, slower wave and you’ll need some size to your board to take full advantage of it.
